Weekly Design Inspirations #14— Augmenting Your Face in Real Time
In 2018, Apple announced a real-time face tracking avatar Animoji in its Keynotes. In 2010s, there were many experiments, artwork, and apps that challenged on tracking one’s face in real time and overlaying animated graphics on it. Most of facial tracking is handled by RGB cameras for visual analysis and IR cameras for a depth analysis, and made the technique available with the introduction of Kinect and advanced smartphones. In this entry, I want to highlight some examples that are beautiful and unforgettable projects. Just like masks introduced in Weekly Design Inspirations #11 — Amazing Masks That Do Not Protect From a Virus, all projects augment one’s face into the completely different creature, but these digital versions also transform faces over time.
